Blanket Turned Bolster Pillow

My little girl has moved into her big bed recently.

I know,  ...sigh. She's 2 1/2 already. Already!

And big changes such as this sure mark how fast time flies.

Did I mention that we picked up this bedroom set for $30 from a neighbor's yard sale last fall? With a little distressing to make the existing nicks and bumps feel more welcome, it looks great.

To accommodate her little toddler legs, we opted not to use the standard box spring, therefore keeping the bed closer to the floor.
It is easier this way for her to climb in and out on her own. Instead of a box spring there is a frame under the mattress, and while this works nicely, it does leave a gap between the bottom of the headboard and the top of the mattress.

From my stack of well loved comforters that I keep for guests, backyard camp outs, and living room fort building, I picked a thick fancy thing that just didn't fit our decor at all. Then I pulled out a cheap (and I mean so CHEAP that I could see through it!) sheet that I unwittingly purchased a while back.

After folding the comforter into thirds, with the outer edges folded into the center to fit the width of the bed, I then rolled it up. Folding the edges into the center helped to distribute the comforters overstuffed edges into the center of the roll where the stuffing somehow seemed to be thinner. 

I had the sheet doubled and ready, and then wrapped it around the rolled up comforter, securing the ends with rubber bands. Next came some ribbon tied at the ends - I just grabbed some I happened to find real quick - it's not my favorite, but it works.

 A little fluffing and patting of the new pillow and it is perfect!

A lot less expensive than purchasing a foam bolster, and it gives me a place to store one more extra comforter that didn't often get used anyway.

It makes a perfect spot for a few favorite things, or for her to lean on and read her books, and it also ensures that my little girl's head won't be schooching up too far.

Besides, I really like the romantic and girly look of the draped fabric ends.
