Auction Circus

Yup, I did it. Stood in Saturday's miserable rain and wind all morning. "For what?" you may ask, with as much inflection as you can muster for the stupidity of doing such a thing. I would answer you with the one word that explains it all: auction. Mmmmhhhmmm... estate auction, to be precise. Never mind that the mud oozed into my shoes, that my mascara was running down my face, or that I fell flat on my back with my legs straight in the air sloshing my finds to my neighbor's pickup.

It was worth it all. Said circus manuever was performed with a beautiful, if dusty, cedar wardrobe in hand, which I scored for a dollar, yes! $1.00, el numero uno. (My neighbors gracefully upheld their end of the piece through the entire act.) Not to mention the drop leaf small table, the rocking chair with a leather back, and several other items gained at minimal expense, i.e. a few dollars or cents, only in need of some TLC.

The best part? My old neighbor from our previous townhouse recognized me despite the pre-halloween-mascara-makeup-and-drenched-wig look and let me know that this was their grandparent's home. I don't know about you, but items that come into my home are all the more treasured when they come attached with a glimpse into the memories and love. With fresh paint and new fabric, these pieces will continue to be appreciated. The bestest part? Reconnecting with our neighbors - maybe soon we'll chat over that drop leg table painted a fun color and repurposed as a coffee or game table in our living room. Maybe I can use the rolls of sandpaper that came with the furniture ...

The promising loot:
