A La Velvet

I must give a shout out to Michelle C. for the heads up on another fab store (just love small towns where you always know someone!) known as Surplus City. Our "chance" meeting that evening was a Kiss from the King (one of those special, make-your-day surprises from our Heavenly Father who does them best). Also a huge thanks to my mom, for helping me think through the color choices, the yardage and of course for pushing the extra cart holding carseat and baby!

Thanks to you both, I now have yards YARDS of fabric to sew into nine pairs of curtains for the large, echoing space known as my Arizona room. But, back to the fabric - 29 yards of champagne velvet fabric for only $6.25/yd!!! I know, I should have told you to sit down first...    That's enough fabric to make nine pairs of luxurious floor puddling curtains if I want. And, it was only half the roll! Also note the fun fabric underneath (it really is great - the photo doesn't do it justice) --- I'm going back for more of that one since it is the only fabric I have found that contains some of the odd, odd, odd color green of our bachelor couches that are still functional enough to keep, and that I don't feel like making slipcovers for (yet).

Just think, there were at one time 15 windows in here! No longer any doubts about removing those six! Can't wait till we can afford new windows (9 will be cheaper than 15!)... and crisp new molding. For now, curtians will have to do for aesthetics and heat retention.

Yup, it's a store on the way to my mom's. My dear hubby is gonna miss me this fall! Not to mention she also has a sewing machine (two ARE better than one)... this project will take me a while, and yes, I do want to sew them. They will still be window mistreatments, as they'll be far from perfect, but I have priced the do it myself grommets (like the Pottery Barn velvet curtains) and the rings with clips (which never seem to hold well anyway), and the rings with eyelets, and they are all outrageous! So, classic drapery hooks or rod pockets will have to do, unless someone else has a lovely idea for inexpensive rings that I could sew on (no eyelets required) - I had the idea of actual large washers - from the hardware bolt and nut area.... hhhmmm... that could work as an industrial look against the velvet...

Anyway, I'll keep you posted ... I'm going to go cozy up with my roll of velvet now... and dream of curtains such as these, courtesy of Pottery Barn (again)...   Now to decide on length:

floor skimming...

... (almost) luxurious puddle...
